Angel Di Maria has been a prolific signing for Benfica. The Argentine made a switch to his former club, despite lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia. It is as if Di Maria is playing his career backward, with the player now being linked to his boyhood club in Argentina. This won’t be good news for Lionel Messi, as Inter Miami has been in talks to sign Di Maria since the summer window.

Angel Di Maria was a first-team starter for Juventus but his stint with the Turin club only lasted for a year. The Argentine, meanwhile, won the World Cup in Qatar. During his spell in Italy, he played 40 games, scoring 8 goals and providing 7 assists. Considering Di Maria’s status in the European scene, David Beckham had been plotting to add the Argentine to his roster at Miami, which is now likely in jeopardy.

David Beckham faces another blow to his transfer plans. The Miami club has been trying to sign Di Maria since he left Juve but the Argentinean signed for Benfica. The club is now trying again to make him their marquee signing but a new competitor has emerged.

Rosario Central, Di Maria’s boyhood club, is in advance talks to sign the Argentine international. Central’s sporting director, Federico Lussenhoff, said in an interview, “I spoke with him, his contract with Benfica ends in June 2024. We are preparing the club so that he arrives and feels comfortable, with the conditions to be able to compete.”

The return of Di Maria is highly anticipated among the fans and it will also help boost the team’s performance if the move is made. Although the influence of Lionel Messi can help David Beckham strike a deal with the former Juventus winger.
