Is Tottenham making a mistake by letting Giovani Lo Celso go for unproven English talent?

Tottenham Hotspur, under Australian boss Ange Postecoglou’s watch, is shaking up the transfer market before they kick-start their 2024-25 Premier League campaign. The Spurs’ recent signings prove two things. One, they are bullish on youngsters, as recently acquired Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall are 18-year-olds and Alfie Devine is 19. Two, the London club is going the extra mile to galvanize its midfield. If Argentina’s ace midfielder Giovani Lo Celso were to leave the Spurs, Postecoglou and Co. would make sure that their strategy to house a young midfield is a complete success.

Giovani Lo Celso has become a free agent this season, and hence, Ange Postecoglou is mulling to offload him. As per the Argentine publication TyC Sports, the Spurs are planning to negotiate a swap deal with Aston Villa. The deal would see Lo Celso join Villa and Villa’s 23-year-old midfielder, Jacob Ramsey, join the Spurs. It won’t be a surprise if Lo Celso gives in and joins Villa. Firstly, he had a bumpy ride in Tottenham, having spent two seasons on loan.

Secondly, a switch to Aston Villa would give the 28-year-old a chance to link up with his Argentina teammate and ace goalie Emiliano Martinez. Anyhow, no reports have mentioned how much it would cost the Spurs and Villa to engineer a swap deal. Postecoglou’s target, Jacob Ramsey, is quite the right candidate to light up the Spurs’ midfield. He has been a regular at the Villa senior team since 2019. He has more than 100 caps under his belt and has also scored 13 goals for Aston Villa.

If you thought this potential Lo Celso-Ramsey swap deal was all about Spurs’ transfer activity, you’re wrong. Rumors have it that Postecoglou’s entourage could poach some of the most sought-after Premier League heavyweights.

Tottenham Hotspur could pull off two massive moves this summer

The Spurs have not found a replacement for Harry Kane, ever since the star striker left for Bayern Munich. But they are hoping to put an to the search for an ace striker. Per rumors, Brentford’s superstar Ivan Toney is close to joining Tottenham Hotspur. A serial goalscorer and an accomplished penalty expert, Toney ran out of his Brentford contract this summer. Brentford has initially kept a $90 million plus price tag for the ace English striker, but due to a lack of suitors, the club is reportedly lowering the price. Indeed, the right time for Postecoglou and Co. to make a stealthy move.

Besides Toney, the Spurs also reportedly have Chelsea’s ace midfielder Conor Gallagher on their radar. Gallagher will run out of his Chelsea contract next summer. But the financial boost that awaits Chelsea if they sell Gallagher might prompt the London club to off-load the Englishman this season. Anyhow, it remains to be seen if Gallagher’s potential switch could thwart the Spurs’ plan for the Lo Celso-Ramsey swap deal.
