Amidst NWSL’s Expansion Plans, USWNT Legends Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan Voice Out Their Opinions

SheBelieves Cup second-round games took place at Geodis Park in Nashville. The 30,000-seater stadium is home to the MLS franchise Nashville SC. USWNT beat Japan 1-0, and Canada beat Brazil 2-0 in the games on Sunday at the stadium. The atmosphere for the USWNT game was prolific. Soccer stars Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan thinks there should be an NWSL franchise in the Music City.

NWSL currently has 12 franchise and have already planned for three new expansion clubs in Utah, San Francisco, and Boston. The fees for the new clubs are $50 million for San Francisco and Boston. There is only one NWSL franchise in the south, North Carolina Courage, and USWNT stars think Nashville is ready for the NWSL club.

Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe are back for the NWSL expansion club in Nashville

Rapinoe, who plays for NWSL club OL Reigns, praised the atmosphere and fans at Geodis Park. The forward said, “I think this atmosphere was the best we’ve had in a long time. Obviously, the fans are amazing here. And that’s great for us. That hypes us up and keeps everybody engaged and brings the level of our game, I think, up to another level, and Nashville is always a great place to come.”

Her USWNT teammate was also on the same page with the OL Reigns forward. Morgan thinks Nashville is a great candidate for the next NWSL expansion club. She was impressed with the number of fans in the stadium for the game. Over 25,000 fans attended the SheBelieves Cup game between USWNT and Japan that saw Morgan giving an assist on a winning goal.

“We’ve been here (in Nashville) a couple of times and obviously playing in a soccer-specific stadium is the best-case scenario, having 25,000 (fans) like this where the crowd is energetic, and it’s fun,” Morgan said. “The pitch is perfect. It was actually a great a great game for us. So hopefully, there are more NWSL teams, and Nashville would be a great candidate for that,” the forward added further.

The USWNT coach also thinks Nashville is ready for the NWSL club

Vlatko Andonovski thinks the atmosphere for the game was unbelievable. Andonovski heaped praise on the fans in Nashville and thinks they deserve an NWSL club. It was a proper soccer stadium where USWNT played the game, and fans impressed everyone on the roster.

It will be interesting to see when NWSL announces the next expansion announcement. With the soccer superstars backing Nashville for the expansion club, the local fans will hope NWSL fulfills their wish soon.
