This is an eventful time for international singer Shakira, who has had a tumultuous past year. Already facing a split with her long-time partner, Gerard Pique, the singer-songwriter was further shocked when she became the subject of an alleged $15.9 million tax fraud case.

The trials for the case are still underway. Recent reports reveal the trial is set to begin on November 20th and will consist of twelve separate sessions spread out over the course of two months. However, the situation has recently evolved with the appointment of a new lawyer by Shakira.

This is a notable move as Enrique Pecourt Gozalbez is the brother of Jorge Pecourt, a long-time lawyer of soccer sensation Lionel Messi. The Argentine hired Jorge Pecourt, for his services during his departure from Barcelona. In addition, Shakira has received significant relief from the Barcelona court, which is yet another positive development in her case.

A big relief for the Colombian singer

As we all know, Shakira has moved to Miami with her children. This move also makes it difficult for her to attend regular court for her cases in Barcelona. However, she has encountered a great degree of leniency from Judge José Manuel del Amo in her Barcelona court case.

Spanish law states that all defendants must appear on the required days in order to present their defense. But the judge has made an exception for Shakira and granted her permission to attend only when she is needed for testimony. This allowance reduces any additional burdens associated with moving back and forth between Barcelona and Miami.
