It would not be an exaggeration to state that the current period is potentially one of the most exhilarating for the US Women’s National Team. With Emma Hayes taking charge and a wealth of young talent at her disposal, prospects appear promising. However, as the Olympics approach, the position of seasoned players such as Alex Morgan remains uncertain. Despite these concerns, it seems that USWNT’s new boss has been notably impressed by Morgan.

The USWNT recently secured a decisive 3-0 victory over South Korea in their ongoing friendly matches. Under Hayes’ leadership, the team has achieved two wins in two matches thus far. Following the matchup against South Korea, Emma Hayes commended the USWNT in its entirety. She remarked, “I think the team as a whole new did their utmost to deliver the performance that I was asking them.” The 47-year-old then turned her attention to the 34-year-old, who started and played for 62 minutes against South Korea.

“Alex’s role was the 9: to find the right moments to get on the ball, to stretch the team out,” stated Hayes. “It’s not always easy when you’re playing against a block. The 9 touches it the least amount of times.” The ex-Chelsea boss further praised the San Diego Wave star’s execution by adding, “But I thought she worked across the width of the box really well, linked up in the right moments.”

Emma Hayes continued to laud Alex Morgan’s contributions, describing her as a ‘top professional’ player who deeply cares about the team and strives for improvement. Although the USWNT legend’s position on the Olympic squad remains unconfirmed, these are significant accolades that clearly underscore the London-born’s recognition of Morgan as a pivotal figure within USWNT.

It will certainly be intriguing to observe whether Hayes envisions the striker fitting into her strategy for the Olympics 2024. Renowned USMNT legend Alexi Lalas has already underscored the high stakes involved for Alex Morgan.
