The contract situation of Lionel Messi is a problem for Paris Saint Germain. With the Argentinian opting not to extend his contract, the current scenario looks bleak for the French giants. Moreover, their results on the pitch are not up to the mark. German soccer club Bayern Munich knocked them out in a convincing way.

Hence, with all their ambitions in the drain, Messi’s contract is the go-to goal for the club. In fact, the state of Qatar ordered the club president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, to extend the World Cup winner’s contract.

Thus, the coast is clear for PSG to make an offer until someone tries to snap him up. Reportedly, some Saudi Arabia clubs like Al Hilal and Al-Ittihad have shown interest in the diminutive Argentinian. But PSG is adamant about keeping him at the club.

PSG wants a contract extension for Lionel Messi

With clubs circling like vultures to get him onboard, PSG wants to drive them away with their own negotiations. As reported by Forbes, Saudi soccer club Al Hilal is ready to offer $350 million for his signature. With just months remaining of his contract, rumors suggest even his boyhood club Barcelona is in the race to sign him up. With the player entering his twilight years in his career, many clubs are interested in signing the legendary player.

If he accepts the Saudi offer, that would make him the highest-paid soccer player in the world, overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese sensation signed for Al Nassr after leaving Manchester United to make him one of the top earners in the world. He receives $210 million and is lighting up the Saudi Pro League. Hence, having Messi in the league would be essential for the brand of the league as a whole.

Where is Messi going to join at the end?

Apart from the Saudi leagues, MLS club Inter Miami remains interested in him. With the 2026 World Cup set to happen in the USA, it would be incredible to watch the player join the club in the USA. Earlier, David Beckham stated he wished to bring Messi and Ronaldo to the club. Likewise, if he joins Barcelona, he probably would end his career with the club.

But for PSG, he remains a vital asset. After all, with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, the trio failed to provide the spark needed for PSG to win the Champions League. Thus, the next season would be vital for the latter stages of his career. Where do you think he will end up?
