The earthquake in Turkey sent shockwaves across the globe as many people reportedly lost their lives. More than 1500 people lost their lives as a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the city in the early morning hours of Monday. Amongst the many who are missing, Malatyaspor soccer goalkeeper Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan was sadly “found under the rubble.” The goalkeeper was at the epicenter location of the earthquake that rocked the whole of Turkey.

Apart from the goalkeeper, soccer player Christian Atsu and Hataysport’s sporting director Taner Savut is reportedly stuck under the rubble. Rescue operations are well underway. It became one of the most powerful earthquakes to strike Turkey in recent years. As many people have lost their lives, the rescue operations are going in full swing. The earthquake is one of the strongest ones in recent years.

The rescuers saved Turkaslan’s wife but reportedly found him under the rubble. His coach, Yılmaz Vural, couldn’t believe the events that transpired. According to Football Tweet’s post, he stated, “I gave the team two days off after the game. Many players were not in Malatya. Only our second goalkeeper, Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan, was there. They saved his wife… I am devastated.”

The goalkeeper, 28, made two appearances in the Turkish Cup in the current season. Massive shockwaves hit the country after the earthquake as residents fled to take shelter. According to CNN, the earthquake’s epicenter was reportedly 23 kilometers at a depth of 24.1 kilometers.

Significantly, nine hours later, a major aftershock of 7.5 hit the area, spanning around 95 kilometers. Thus, many people are reported to be missing from the earthquake’s impact. The incident happened at 4:17 A.M., as they felt the tremors in Lebanon and Israel. It was the strongest earthquake to hit Turkey since 1939. Although seven earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.0 hit the country, the earthquake on Monday left the country devastated.
