Alex Morgan has become a household name in the world of soccer. The 33-year-old is one of the most decorated soccer players and a global icon in the women’s game. She has been part of two World Cup-winning squads and also has an Olympic Gold medal to her name.

While she is now at such a high level, it is vital to remember where her career began. It was a cold evening in Utah on a March day in 2010, when the United States Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) faced off against Mexico in a friendly match. Little did anyone know at the time this match would go on to have a lasting impact on the soccer world and become a defining moment in the career of a rising star.

The debut of Alex Morgan
On March 31, 2010, Sandy, Utah, was covered in a thick layer of white snow. The blizzard would affect the course of history in Women’s soccer, as it marked the debut of USWNT star Alex Morgan. The match between USWNT and Mexico was held on a snow-covered pitch, which was quite the experience for the players.
Despite the adverse conditions, USWNT managed to win the match 1-0. That match was also the first time USWNT ever played a match in the snow. It was during that game that Alex Morgan stepped out into the field and made a lasting impression. At the age of 20, Morgan was the only non-professional player in the match. She was a college player from the University of California, Berkley.
