The duo of Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. is one for the history books. Today, they may be separated by geographical distances or clubs, but the friendship between the two remains as strong as ever. This enduring bond was recently showcased when the Argentinian legend took a moment to congratulate the Brazilian superstar on his recent triumph with Al Hilal to give Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr a heartbreak in the Kings Cup.

Currently sidelined due to injury, Neymar was invited for an interview at one of the Saudi Arabian shows. Interestingly, the host asked the trickster about Messi, to which he replied, “We’re far away, but we talk, we talk a lot. Yesterday, he sent me a message. We’re happy for each other, he sent me a message when we won a title here too.” Ney further heaped praise over his former partner-in-crime: “He’s a great guy, a mirror for me, he’s a great idol, besides being an idol, he’s a friend I have.”

Notably, Neymar didn’t contribute to Al Hilal on the pitch due to the season-ending injury he picked up back in August. Yet, his former Barcelona and PSG teammate sent wishes to the Brazilian international, which ironically came against his long-term rival, Ronaldo. Following a 1-1 draw that extended into extra time, Al Hilal was fortunate in the penalty shootout, winning 5-4. The Kings Cup of Champions adds to their achievements in the Roshn Saudi League, which Al Hilal also managed to snatch from CR7 and his domestic side.

Loss in both tournaments gave Luis Castro’s side a trophyless season. Either way, Neymar must have hoped to help his team on the pitch, but even during his time off the field, the forward did everything to aggravate Ronaldo with Messi’s help.

Neymar teased Cristiano Ronaldo with the help of Lionel Messi

After Al Hilal won the penalty shootout, Cristiano Ronaldo was heading down the tunnel. This led the Blue Waves fanbase to chant Lionel Messi’s name in front of the Portuguese superstar. What caught the eye was a video that surfaced of Neymar sitting behind the fans, recording the whole moment while laughing. Many supporters claimed, while sharing the video, that the 32-year-old and his friends also joined the chants. But this doesn’t end here.

Neymar headed straight to the pitch to enjoy the trophy with his team. Interestingly, he celebrated by mimicking Messi’s famous gesture: hands-on ears, just as the Inter Miami star did during the World Cup quarter-final campaign against the Netherlands. Certainly, it’s no less than banter from Neymar against Ronaldo, who was already distraught by the loss. On the other hand, it was also a testament to Neymar’s enduring friendship with Lionel Messi.
