Bad decision-making and mismanagement have left the soccer giants down billion-dollar in debt. On top of that, the club’s Twitter account recently got the blue tick removed for failing to renew the monthly subscription.

This has led to much media scrutiny and debate, with many questioning the current status of the La Liga giants. But on the rugged terrain and mud that La Blaugrana has been stuck in, a little light of hope has shone through in the shape of Lamine Yamal.

A new talent breaking records in FC Barcelona

The fifteen-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal has been doing the rounds on the Barcelona Academy grounds for a long time. Yamal began his career at the La Masia Academy of Barcelona at the tender age of 7 and has been on the radar for quite a while.

Recent news sent ripples around the world when FC Barcelona announced that the prodigy would be playing in the first-team squad against Atletico Madrid. By being called up to the senior team, Yamal has become the youngest-ever player to be named to a Barca’s first-team squad in the club’s 100-year-plus history.

Even if he receives no playtime in the game, Lamal has already broken the record, which was set by Vicenc Martínez in 1941. If he gets some playing time, Lamal would also break Armando Martinez Sagi’s record for youngest senior team appearance, which has stood since April 2, 1922. Ahead of the record breaking-appearance, Barcelona coach, Xavi also had some words of praise for the teenager.

The Barcelona coach further added, “He is happy and grateful. If he is on the list he can play. I see things about [Andres] Iniesta for Pedri but Lamine is different. He does not have a clear profile, he is a born talent. Young people are not afraid, unlike before. The new generations try and have a terrible self-confidence. This is what I see in Lamine”.
