Former USMNT star Charlie Davies, during his appearance on CBS’s Champions League broadcast, touched down on the disrespect received by American players. The former player claimed the United States has no history in soccer, which is one of the biggest reasons behind the lack of respect.

Davies stated, “I do, especially in England. The reason why I saw England, if you look at history. In 1950 the US beat England in the World Cup. And listen, you’ve never heard about that. Literally, it wasn’t even celebrated in America. They didn’t go up to the World Cup till 1990, so there’s no history of the sport.”

He added, “So, in England, if you have an accent, they look at you like you don’t know. You have no intelligence in the game. Other countries they have world superstars. In America, you saw Jerry was the first to go to Europe. We didn’t have a Champions League winner who was playing until Pulisic.”

During the show, things got heated between French legend Thierry Henry and Davies. Amid the debate, Henry promptly challenged Charlie Davies, suggesting he reflect on how English fans treated Arsene Wenger.
