The rumor mill started with the soccer transfer window opening in January, linking soccer players to different clubs. With more games to play and injury concerns, clubs want to have that depth in the squad to fight for trophies. However, some clubs are looking to grab the young talents before someone else takes them. One such FIFA World cup winner youngster from MLS club Atlanta United is subject to transfer speculation. 

Clubs looking to strengthen their squads are looking for youngsters worldwide that would cost them lesser money. Atlanta United star Thiago Almada is on the transfer list of hosts of the clubs, including those from Qatar who hosted the FIFA World Cup.

MLS starlet on the transfer list of several clubs

The only active FIFA World Cup winner in the MLS, Thiago Almada, is in the transfer news. Atlanta United starlet, who can play as an attacking midfielder or winger, won the World Cup with Argentina recently. However, he was not part of the original squad, but an injury to Argentine player Joaquin Correa meant they brought him as a replacement. 

Almada made his World Cup debut against Poland in the last group game for Argentina, the only appearance in the tournament. However, his heroics with Atlanta United last season has caught the attention. The MLS Newcomer of the Year 2022 scored six goals for the club in the MLS, assisting on 12 occasions.

Almada is seen as a magnificent prospect and can see offers coming from the clubs in Qatar, as per reports. European clubs like Olympique Marseille, Real Betis, and OGC Nice are also keeping tabs on the youngster. It will be interesting to see how Atlanta United reacts to offers for their record signing.

First transfer window after FIFA World Cup

January transfer window is seen by the majority of the clubs to add players if there are any long-term injuries to their players. However, as this is the first transfer window after the World Cup, we can expect big signings to happen. Liverpool getting Cody Gakpo, who shone during the World Cup, is a great example.

Reports link the host of World Cup stars with a big-money move to the European giants. Another World Cup winner, Enzo Fernandez, is linked with Chelsea along with Croatian Josko Gvardiol. We have seen many such transfers happening after the World Cup in the past. Clubs tend to sign the highest-performing players from the tournament for enormous sums.
