The player rivalry that has excited soccer fans the most is between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Even though they haven’t played each other for around two years, fans always draw comparisons between the two legends. With Ronaldo’s move to Saudi Arabia, fans were thinking they won’t see them play against each other.

However, the recent reports stating PSG are willing to reschedule last year’s friendly in Saudi Arabia have raised the hopes of the fans. Fans are excited again to see both take on each other, maybe for one last time.

Fans react to the news of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s face-off

If a match is certain to happen, it will be almost after over two years before the duo will face each other. They last met in a UEFA Champions League group stage game in 2020 at Camp Nou, where Ronaldo’s brace helped Juventus sink Barcelona. Ronaldo did visit Barcelona again for Joan Gamper Trophy in 2021, but Messi wasn’t part of the club then.

Fans are enthralled to witness the rivalry again. They feel it’s the last dance and is eagerly waiting for the match to happen. It will be a clash of two GOATs as per many soccer fans.  

Having two eternal rivals taking on each other will be a great move for the popularity of Saudi Arabian soccer, according to a few fans.

Riyadh Season Cup can happen this January

Saudi Arabia’s Government organizes the Riyadh Festival, with soccer being a major attraction. It started in 2019 and saw an enormous response from the fans. Meanwhile, in January 2022, they decided to organize a Riyadh Season Cup between the combined team of two Saudi League clubs and French giants PSG.

However, PSG was hit by Covid in January 2022, and the game scheduled on 19th January 2022, was postponed. PSG was due to visit Qatar first for a three-day training camp before playing in Riyadh. They were due to take on a combined team of Al Hilal and Al Nassr, managed by legendary manager Arsene Wenger in the Riyadh Season Cup.

Now reports are emerging that PSG is planning to visit Riyadh to play a one-off friendly in the Riyadh Season Cup. However, it will be interesting to see how the French club manages to have some time out from its busy schedule.
