On Sunday, Lionel Messi officially began a new phase of his life. The American phase. The Argentine World Cup winner will play for Inter Miami for the next two-and-a-half years. Messi’s former manager, Mauricio Pochettino, spoke about the ‘massive’ impact he could have on the MLS. Pochettino previously coached him at PSG and is ‘amazed’ to see him happy again.
Inter Miami is definitely quite serious about a rebuild. They’ve almost reunited the Argentine and two other FC Barcelona stars at the club. In all likelihood, the arrival of the 36-year-old will take American soccer to the next level.

Mauricio Pochettino recently made a few pleasant comments about Messi’s move to the MLS. Currently, Pochettino is at Chelsea for his first season in charge. He previously coached the World Cup winner during his tenure at PSG. Messi played alongside the likes of Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe. But now, he is gearing up to take Major League Soccer to new heights.
Pochettino believes that Messi’s arrival is ‘massive’ for the MLS. He quoted, “I think it is massive for the MLS. I think Leo Messi is the best player in the world, because of that the impact is massive. You can see in the last days with the presentation in Miami and the impact in the world. It is amazing to see him happy and the people in Miami and the MLS are going to enjoy him”.
The Argentine has his own set of perks in his Inter Miami contract. He will cash out $55 million as his base wage, along with an additional commission from Apple (Season Pass) and Adidas every season. By far, he is the topmost earner of his team and the league too. While Pochettino inherits a lifeless Chelsea, Messi joins Miami possibly at their worst slump ever.
With a few quality additions to the squad, David Beckham will hope that this Barcelona reunion will break his club’s ten-game winless streak.

Along with Messi, even Sergio Busquets received his pink and black jersey during the opening ceremony. Fabrizio Romano reports that the club has also almost signed Jordi Alba too. Without a doubt, the ex-Barcelona trio will work wonders in the MLS. Lionel Messi’s playmaking ability will surely turn around Inter Miami’s not-so-good statistics.
On the other hand, Busquets’ experience will help stabilize the defensive line. The imminent arrival of Jordi Alba will help the Miami-based soccer club create crossing and passing opportunities on the left flank. Sources suggest that Lionel Messi’s debut will take place on July 21 against Cruz Azul. Interestingly, the tickets for that game are already sold out!
