Alex Morgan's retirement: A loss for soccer or a new beginning for her family life?

Being a top-level athlete takes a ton of you. And when you’re at the Alex Morgan level, apart from talent and professionalism, you need many things to go right. The Wave veteran had a long and consistent career with 2 World Cups but decided to call quits after getting to know about her 2nd pregnancy. But in the lead-up to her 123-goal USWNT career, there is constant support she appears to have received from her husband Servando, who once called Alex “such a warrior” for giving birth and wanting to come back to the sport. And the former MLS player acknowledging who she is, has now dropped an emotional homage to his better half and our USA soccer legend.

Taking to his Instagram, Servando Carrasco lauded the star after the decision was taken. Posting Alex Morgan’s picture from college days, he captioned it, “One of one. Always in awe of everything you do and stand for. Keep shining baby. We love you.” Well, it seems like Dad and their baby Charlie are excited to welcome her back after a long-long wait. However, the USWNT veteran’s husband also seems to anticipate her contributions even further.

The soccer world is already in awe of what Alex Morgan has done on the pitch. 2 World Cups, an Olympic gold and bronze, and a European treble are just a few of them. But her impetus reaches beyond the pitch. While both he and Morgan await their second child, the 2023 NWSL Shield winner has already revealed her mission ahead.

Meanwhile, Alex Morgan’s work to progress women’s sport has been going on for years, and she will continue to do it through investment now. Her co-founded firm, Togethxr, is a woman-centric media organization helping female athletes get the reach they deserve. Apart from that, the USWNT legend also arranged for funds for an upcoming 3×3 baseball league, Unrivaled. Nevertheless, the family’s wait to be together seems to be over.

Have an interesting take?

Although respectful of whatever Morgan takes, this moment of retirement is an emotional occasion for the family. Tonight, she will take the field for one last time against the North Carolina Courage. Tears may flow, but Alex Morgan will be glad to be back home. In 2018, Servando was sure that this time would arrive, saying, “We’re only going to be able to play professional soccer for 5 to 6 more years. We’ve got to take advantage of this, and know that when we’re done playing, we’re going to be together.” Hence, the mission is completed now, and the baton seems to have been passed on.

The couple already have a bundle of joy in their 4-year-old daughter, Charlie. Already inspired by her mom, the camera-friendly toddler also wants to take up the same sport, the upcoming soccer mom revealed. It appears that the beautiful game runs in the blood! And while Alex Morgan nurtures talent both at home and also through her business, Servando Carrasco cannot be a prouder human as the soccer world tips their hat to a career that’ll be remembered in the decades to come.
