The last few months have seemed to be quite tough for Shakira. From already being stuck in a lawsuit to potentially receiving another one for her diss tracks, the singer is dealing with a lot. One of her co-stars recently revealed a major secret from the hard-hitting diss track controversy. Interestingly, the lyrics of her track were modified multiple times to avoid legal trouble with the Waka-Waka singer’s ex-partner.
They were simply trying to find the right balance without ‘going overboard’ or ‘sounding soft’. The Latin American star already has a lawsuit to her name. She could potentially face eight years in prison if she loses the trial which is worth 15.9 million.

Shakira and Bizarrap had to find the right lyrical balance to avoid legal trouble
2023 turned out to be a memorable year for Shakira. She re-peaked onto the top of music charts mainly because of her diss tracks against Gerard Pique. The fanbase will remember her hard-hitting lyrics for a long time. From taunts to sneaky insults, they witnessed it all. In a recent interview, Keityn dropped a little secret from the production set of the viral Bizarrap diss track.
The songwriter claimed that the lyrics went through several levels of modification. He quoted, “We removed strong things, we changed parts because then things could happen. We changed the verses several times, we had to change it to be more meticulous. We were looking for the exact point, without going overboard, but without sounding soft”, as compiled by Univision and translated by DeepL.

“That chili pepper lacks more Pique” was a line that didn’t make it to the final cut. While they couldn’t clearly use Clara Chia Marti’s name in the song, they ended up using ‘clara-mente’ which was a play on words. Not sounding too controversial and harsh was one side of the coin. The Colombian icon did not want to trigger Pique to such an extent wherein he would pursue legal action.
Honestly, that would be the last thing Shakira and her legal team would want. The Grammy Award winner could pay a heavy price if she loses her current tax-fraud lawsuit. While the trial is later in the year, the tensions are sky-high. Let’s dive deeper.

Specifics on Shakira’s tax-fraud lawsuit
Soon after breaking up with Pique, the Spanish authorities accused the Waka-Waka singer of tax fraud. Reportedly, the Latin American singer hadn’t paid her taxes from 2012-14. However, Shakira has seemed very calm about the lawsuit. In previous interviews, she revealed that nobody had any proof against her. Also, she wasn’t obliged to pay taxes to the government because she wasn’t residing in Spain.

While the Colombian icon is confident about winning the lawsuit, it is important to look at the other side too in case things go downhill. The tax fraud accusation is about $15.9 million and the singer could face eight years in prison too. Currently, the Hips Don’t Lie singer has legal possession of her kids in Miami. The situation could be drastically different after a few months if Shakira is found guilty.
