The 2022 domestic season for Wrexham AFC was quite successful. The Welsh side managed to clinch automatic promotion to EFL League Two following a record-breaking season. It is a major success for the owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Not only they managed to secure silverware with the men’s team but also with the women’s team as well.

It was quite a feat they achieved this season, as they’ll be looking to repeat the same drill in the upcoming season. However, the trophy wasn’t the only thing they won, as they managed to add another record to their name.

Aside from trophies, Wrexham also managed to win the best disciplinary record in the fifth division. The Red Dragons had the best discipline in the National League, as they won the Fair Play Award after finishing with 54 points. They received only 49 yellow cards and one red card in 46 games.

While talking about the record, the manager, Phil Parkinson, revealed how he managed to keep his players disciplined. “At the start of the season, we sat down with the lads and discussed discipline,” he said, as stated by the Leader. “The year before we had players sent off, which had proved costly, and we spoke about not getting needless yellow cards and obviously sending offs, and the only sending off we got was Callum’s at Barnet. All those things add up to be part of a successful season, and keeping your control in pressure games.”

The National League manager of the season winner said all these things add up to a successful season. Parkinson insisted that the Fair Play Award was not seen as prestigious, but for the Dragons, it primarily helped them stay at the top of the table. The 55-year-old also insisted that he would like to maintain this kind of discipline in the upcoming season.

“Just being on the pitch is important. Being competitive and ready for the fight in every game but making sure that you doing that in control, and hopefully we will continue to do that as much as possible,” he added. Indeed, it is good to see the Welsh club maintain decorum on the pitch. Let’s see how they manage to do it in the upcoming season.
