Robert Lewandowski has been in the doldrums for quite some time. Unlike last season’s success, things are rather slow for the Polish striker this time around. As the former Bayern Munich standout continues to receive criticism for his lackluster performances, Lewa candidly reveals all the negative things that ‘accumulated,’ contributing to a bad weakness.
From becoming a La Liga top scorer in his debut season with an impressive 23-goal tally to scoring just 8 goals in this season, ‘The Body’ seems to have lost his spark. However, the 35-year-old has an explanation for his downward trajectory. In an exclusive interview with Foot Truck, Robert Lewandowski said, “In 2023, there was a moment when I felt, not only mentally, but also physically weaker. All the bad and negative things seemed to come together in one moment. Everything accumulated.”
It appears things have gone off track for Robert Lewandowski in many aspects of his game, which seems to have had a profound effect on his sporting performances. Notably, the Catalan No. 9 has notched just 13 goals and 6 assists in over 30 appearances across all competitions so far. Although his last goal came during the recent Copa del Rey RO16 clash against Athletic Club, he has yet to find the net in La Liga since December 10, when he scored against Girona.

Fabio Capello feels that Xavi is missing the Robert Lewandowski we’ve known
During a recent interview with Marca, Fabio Capello was questioned about the criticism Xavi has been facing despite winning La Liga and the Supercopa de Espana last year. Interestingly, he succinctly replied, “That always happens. Lewandowski is failing him [Xavi] a little bit, he is not the same as last year, and that is important.”

While emphasizing that Robert Lewandowski is not akin to a striker like Erling Haaland, who gradually improves due to his youthfulness, the Italian manager remarked, “Xavi’s main problem at Barcelona is that he is missing Lewandowski, who is not playing at the level we know him to be at.” With the season still on the line, let’s hope Lewa picks up his pace. Otherwise, things could go even further downhill from here for the veteran.
