Things haven’t been the same for the San Diego Wave in the absence of their talisman, Alex Morgan. Ever since the USWNT star was sidelined due to an ankle injury, Casey Stoney’s side has been performing in fits and starts. As fans eagerly await the return of their star player, there is finally a major update: Morgan is treading the path to recovery, having been spotted training.

The spirit-lifting update came via the forward’s social networks. Just hours ago, the two-time World Cup winner took to Instagram and posted a story of herself training at the Waves facility. Additionally, she added a gif that read, ‘Work in progress.’ This picture is enough to suggest that Morgan is slowly on the path to recovery. Interestingly, it’s unclear whether she was training with the whole group, as there weren’t any of her teammates present in the picture.

But even though it seems like she is training alone, it’s a relieving update for Morgan’s faithful. Her side continues to languish in 10th place with just 11 points. Earlier this weekend, Stoney and Co. lost 2-1 to Bay FC. Hence, this latest update is certainly music to the ears of fans. Notably, Morgan got injured in the first place while in action against Orlando Pride on April 20th. With the Florida side leading 1-0, the 34-year-old tried to change the course of the game but was unsuccessful.

In the final moments of the match, while tussling for the ball, Morgan appeared to twist her left ankle. Despite receiving treatment, she was forced to leave the field limping. Either way, her return to training is a major boost for Waves, so can we expect her presence in the Olympics as well?

Will Alex Morgan be able to recover in time for Paris Olympics 2024?

Judging by the latest training snap shared by Alex Morgan, it seems like the forward won’t take much time to recover, at least until the Olympics kick off. Until July 25, Morgan has enough time to prepare for the summer games and cement her spot on Emma Hayes’ side. However, the reason why she should recover quickly is that the USWNT is scheduled to play two friendly matches in the upcoming month.

The four-time World Champions will face South Korea on two separate occasions (June 2 and June 5). Certainly, the presence of Morgan would help her prove to Hayes why she deserves to go to Paris. In fact, the Waves forward is quite optimistic about participating in the prestigious tournament. But it would certainly come at the cost of missing action for his domestic side, which is already struggling.

It remains to be seen how quickly Alex Morgan recovers to finally help San Diego Waves and then finally take leave to play for her beloved nation.
