2x World Champion Alex Morgan‘s trophy cabinet is expanding. Thanks to Morgan’s clutch 88th-minute header, San Diego Wave FC ousted the defending NWSL champions Gotham FC to win the Challenge Cup today. The 34-year-old laced up for this just 5 days after winning the CONCACAF W Gold Cup with the USWNT. As icing on the cake, she bagged the Challenge Cup’s MVP award and a 4-figure reward for her winning strike. What more? The MVP’s 3-year-old daughter Charlie was by her side on the field to celebrate the monumental triumph.
The NWSL sponsor UKG had earlier announced a $3500 reward to each player of the Challenge Cup-winning squad. That is one minimal yet worthy addition to Alex Morgan’s $3 million net worth. This time, UKG has also decided to give an additional $2,000 bonus to the MVP. That meant the women’s soccer icon walked home with a cheque worth $5.5k.
The NWSL Challenge Cup marks San Diego Wave’s 2nd title in two years since they joined the NWSL in 2022. Last year, Morgan and Co. won the NWSL Shield for the best regular season performance. Thanks to that, the Wave earned a spot in the Challenge Cup. Besides, they’re widely deemed as the favorite to win the NWSL title this season. While Alex Morgan stole the show, the focus shifted to her daughter during the celebration and the award ceremony. The mother and daughter celebrated San Diego’s win the same way they did after the USWNT won the Gold Cup! We’ve heard the soccer veteran talk on the mic for years, but this time Jr. took over in style.

3-year-old Charlie likes one thing in particular, as Alex Morgan wins again!
Alex Morgan’s daughter, Charlie joined her mother and San Diego Wave’s Jaedyn Shaw during post-game interviews. Morgan said this was Charlie’s 2nd podium appearance of the week and she is getting used to it. The toddler was asked to comment on her mother’s win. She coughed on the mic and said something vaguely. Soon, Morgan intervened and asked her child to say ‘something nice’. “I like the fireworks,” Charlie said. Thereafter, the 34-year-old and her kid, laid on the field and flapped their hands and legs to celebrate the winning moment.

Morgan and Charlie performed the same celebration five days back after the USWNT’s Gold Cup triumph. They could not have done so if things went as the USWNT initially planned. Alex Morgan was not a part of the US roster that went into the Gold Cup. But Mia Fishel’s injury called for coach Twila Kilgore to summon the 2x World Champion to the US camp.
