The Riyadh Derby between Al Nassr and Al Hilal was nothing short of a spectacle. Al Hilal emerged victorious with a dominant 3-0 win. While Al Nassr and their star player Cristiano Ronaldo could not extend their 20-game undefeated streak, manager Luis Castro believes it was the wrong decision from the referees that led to a disappointing night.
Controversial calls are not uncommon in soccer, and this match was no exception. One particular moment of contention arose when Cristiano Ronaldo scored what could have been the equalizing goal, only for it to be ruled offside.

The offside call, no doubt, left Luis Castro displeased. In a display of frustration, he even pulled out his phone during the game to show the sideline referee that the goal was indeed valid. Following the match, Castro expressed his dissatisfaction with the referee’s performance, stating, “The referee is the one who made Al Hilal win today.”

His statement makes it clear that he firmly believes the outcome of the match was influenced by the referee’s incorrect decision to disallow Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal. Castro’s critique did not stop there. He went on to highlight other controversial incidents during the game, saying, “There were two penalty kicks that were not awarded to us, and Al Hilal’s second goal should have been disallowed.”
These additional comments indicate that the Portuguese manager does not view the referee’s decisions as isolated incidents. But instead sees them as a series of biased judgments that ultimately favored their opponents. While one could argue about the referee’s decision, there is no disputing the remarkable performance exhibited by Al Hilal’s Aleksandar Mitrovic during the match.

Although Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t have a particularly notable game in terms of scoring goals, Aleksandar Mitrovic pulled off an outstanding display on the pitch. Mitrovic’s impact wasn’t as evident in the first half, but he came alive in the second half. Towards the end of the match, just before the 90-minute mark, he scored a remarkable header from a corner kick.
Then, in injury time, he added another goal to secure a 3-0 victory for his team. With this impressive performance, the Serbian striker now has a total of 13 goals in the league. This places him just two goals behind Cristiano Ronaldo on the top scorers’ list of the Saudi Pro League.
