Can Ronaldo carry Al Nassr to victory against Al Feiha, or is the team too reliant on him?

Saudi Pro League Matchday 2 sees Al Nassr travel to Al Majma’ah Sports City as they gear up to face Al Feiha. Already coming with a disastrous pre-season and Saudi Super Cup upset vs Al Hilal, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. had a rather vague start to their domestic campaign. The Knights of the Najd were held 1-1 by Al Raed in the opening fixture, keeping them in the 10th place of the league table with just a point.

Meanwhile, Al Feiha also had a poor start to their Roshn League Campaign. After enduring a narrow loss against Konyaspor in their pre-season friendlies, Christos Kontis’ side kicked off their new season after 20 days with another unfortunate narrow loss at the hands of Al Taawoun. This keeps them in 13th place with no points in their hands.

Injuries

Al Feiha

Al Feiha won’t be able to count on the services of Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru, and star midfielder Mohammed Abusabaan as both sidelined due to injuries. However, the rest of the lineup is likely to remain unchanged. Key players like Fashion Sakala, who netted 19 goals in 31 league matches last season after his transfer from Scottish club Rangers, are expected to retain their spots in the attack on Tuesday.

Al Nassr

Luis Castro is blessed that he doesn’t have any injuries or suspensions to blame. The start of the season saw him get the biggest boost in the form of Anderson Talisca. Unfortunately, the Brazilian missed the majority of the 2023/24 season. However, Talisca did start in the opening league match alongside star teammates Cristiano Ronaldo, Otavio, and Sadio Mane.

It was only CR7 who had been scoring for Al Nassr in the past two games. He first netted the only goal during the 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Al Hilal to miss out on the prestigious trophy. The 39-year-old skipper kept his scoring streak alive in the previous fixture, thanks to an assist from Sadio Mane. However, that lead equalized just after the beginning of the second half as the Al Nassr conceded a penalty.

They also saw many controversial decisions during the game. Though they were lucky to see their star defender Aymeric Laporte escape a red card, a penalty and a goal were ruled out by VAR.

Predicted lineups

Al Feiha [4-2-4]: Al-Deqeel; Al Dowaish, Al Khaibari, Al Rashidi, Abdi; Al-Beshe, Kaabi; Harthi, Al Hussain, Al Rammah, Sakala

Both sides are trembling on their domestic fronts but this may be the time for Al Nassr to catch a break. Having a good record against the AL Majma’ah-based club, Castro and Co. are expected to overcome this challenge but with some discrepancies. We reckon the score will be Al Feiha 1-3 Al Nassr.
