Al Nassr is eyeing another big signing in the upcoming January transfer window. After rumblings of interest in Cristiano Ronaldo‘s former teammates Casemiro and Raphael Varane, another player being tipped to join the team is Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

Al Ahly’s recent run in the FIFA Club World Cup ended prematurely. While they managed to defeat Saudi club Al Ittihad in the second round, they fell short against Fluminense in the semi-finals. Following this disappointing exit, a popular sports commentator, Ali Saeed Al-Kaabi believes it is time for El Shenawy to leave the Egyptian club.

Ali Saeed Al-Kaabi who commented during the FIFA World Cup semi-final match made a bold statement regarding El Shenawy. He suggested, “After Al-Ahly of Egypt finishes the Club World Cup, Mohamed El-Shenawy will move to Al-Nasr Club.” Interestingly, this is not the first time Al Nassr and the Al Ahly captain have been linked together.

The rumors of Al Nassr’s interest in the Egyptian goalkeeper first surfaced in July, but no deal was finalized at that time. However, Al-Kaabi believes that now is the right time for this move to happen. There is, however, a potential hurdle in El-Shenawy’s contract with Al Ahly, which lasts until the end of 2025. This could pose a problem for Luis Castro’s side.

Despite this uncertainty, the potential addition of the 35-year-old to the team could prove to be beneficial for both parties. El-Shenawy has been in excellent form this season, keeping seven clean sheets in 12 matches. In contrast, Al Nassr’s current goalkeeper, Nawaf Al-Aqidi, has managed to keep only six clean sheets in 22 matches.

This makes Mohamed El Shenawy an attractive prospect for a team filled with superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane. However, the star power of this team is expected to elevate further, considering their pursuit of two other rumored world-class targets.

Al Nassr is reportedly showing interest in acquiring Manchester United‘s Casemiro and Raphael Varane, former teammates of Cristiano Ronaldo. While the Saudi side is determined to reunite Ronaldo with these players, there are some complications. Casemiro is still considered an important player for Erik ten Hag‘s squad, and there is also reported interest from PSG to sign the Brazilian midfielder.

On the other hand, it seems that Varane and the Saudi side are close to reaching a deal. Also, a possible move may materialize in the summer if not in the January transfer window. If these significant additions take shape, Al Nassr has the potential to become a formidable force in soccer.
