The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup has lived beyond its expectations, but not for the USWNT. Vlatko Andonovski endured the worst run in the tournament despite being tagged as the favorite to go all the way. While they continue to get slandered by their fans, their rivals made history in this year’s tournament.
Meanwhile, the latest news that broke on the internet was that Vlakto is close to resigning from his coaching job. But coming back to the USWNT’s rivals, they made history, which certainly left an MLS legend in disbelief.

MLS legend reacts to USWNT’s rivals making history
Yesterday, the second match of the World Cup semi-finals took place between Australia and England. Both sides were fighting against each other to play in the final against Sweden, who came through by defeating Spain. Unfortunately, the Aussies’ emphatic journey came to an end as they lost 3-1 against the Lionesses. While the Matildas may have failed to clinch a place in the finals, they set a massive record.
Apparently, their clash against England was the most-watched TV event in Australian history, garnering 11.15 million viewers. As per the numbers, 42% watched the Matildas on Channel 7 alone, even before considering the other live sites that people were watching from. Interestingly, this record caught the eye of MLS legend Taylor Twellman, who gave a two-word response.
Amazing. Speechless. https://t.co/z9wLdf5eGK

The former U.S. soccer star wrote, “Amazing. Speechless.” Certainly, his reaction is valid, as it is indeed a humongous number that the Matildas and the Lionesses have clinched. This record has led Australia to write their names in the history books.
The jaws of the USWNT must have been dropped after hearing their rivals clinch such a remarkable number. Nevertheless, let’s come back to the news where coach Vlatko gave his resignation.

Vlatko Andonovski stepping down from the USWNT head coach position
The players are facing accountability, but it’s predominantly the coach who is bearing the brunt of the criticism. Following the USWNT’s elimination from the tournament, supporters actively called for Vlatko’s dismissal. However, it appears that the Macedonian-American coach is taking matters into his own hands.

Reliable sources from prominent news platforms indicate that the head coach is on the verge of stepping down from his position. Although an official statement is yet to be made, Vlatko has reportedly reached an internal agreement to resign as the head coach of the US Women’s National Team. Subsequently, the decision becomes much easier for the 4X champions as Vlatko’s contract is set to expire that he signed back in 2019.
