It’s been quite a memorable journey for Wrexham town and Wrexham AFC supporters. But it does not look the same for the two Hollywood stars who bought the club. Managing an English soccer club isn’t the same ball game as producing or acting in a movie. However, a lot of credit has to be given to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney for giving heed to the club’s needs. Reynolds recently had a $25 million setback, which would have helped cater to one of the fans’ most important demands. The club received a major update regarding its stadium from the Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST).

The club’s rise from the National League to the EFL resulted in increased reach. Even though the club has managed to acquire a few sponsors, it is still sorting out the infrastructure and legal aspects of the club.

WST and the club have been negotiating an agreement for the stadium since its acquisition in June last year. As per their official release, WST has confirmed the return of the land covenant draft to the club today after the proposed comments. The documents were gone through by the Trust’s legal and property advisors before providing the recommended resolutions.

The land covenant is a significant deal for the club as it would give control of the stadium till 2115. The trust will hold its Special General Meeting in the coming days. The decision on the document will then be taken when the two parties agree on the terms and resolutions.

The document will be effective once it is approved by at least 75% of the members. The control of the stadium would mean that the projects and deals with partners and associated firms would run smoothly.

The most important project benefitting from the new land covenant is the construction of the new Kop stand. The stand promised by Ryan Reynolds is expected to be ready by the 2024 season. However, times haven’t been smooth for the Hollywood owners. The outcome of Ryan Reynolds’ $25 million request to the government for financing the construction of the new Kop didn’t go as planned. Their plan was rejected, giving rise to the hunt for new avenues for funding.

On the other hand, in a recent release, Wrexham announced the club needs to meet certain conditions to strike a deal with Wrexham County Borough Council for the funds. The conditions include things like confirming the new land covenant, meeting UEFA’s level 4 status for the stadium requirements, and removing low-voltage cable and substation from the land needed for the Kop construction. Also, the removal of substations should also not interfere with student accommodation’s power requirements.

The time for the construction of the Kop is at least one year and can commence once the conditions are met. The club is expecting to provide answers for these conditions by the end of October hopefully. Amid all the chaos, one thing is for sure, Wrexham is destined for good things!
