Why did FIFA reject Zelensky’s request?
According to CNN, FIFA has rejected Zelensky’s request to talk about world peace before the FIFA World Cup final. The initial plan was to have a short speech that Zelensky would give just before the kickoff. Zelensky wanted his message to be aired live. However, he never specified whether the speech would be delivered live or through a recording.

However, this is not the first time Kyiv has tried to do something like this. In the last few months, the Ukrainian government has reached out to the many organizers of such large-scale events to deliver their message on world peace. From the looks of it, the Ukrainian government still wants the media spotlight to be on them. This spotlight would obviously be related to the war that happened in Ukraine.
Zelensky has taken the opportunity to appear in large-scale events like the Cannes Film Festival, the Grammys, and the G20 summit. Zelensky laid out a ten-point peace plan to the G20 leaders in Bali, last month. That ten-point peace plan was centered around how to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. At the Cannes Film Festival, Zelensky spoke about the importance of filmmaking amidst a war. at the Grammys, Zelensky started his speech with the line “The war. What’s more opposite than music?”

The effects of the Russia-Ukraine war could be felt in the world of soccer. FIFA placed an indefinite ban on Russia. This ban would prohibit Russia from taking part in any future soccer competitions organized by FIFA. The ban also affected the lives of players and managers that were plying their trade in foreign countries. Huge soccer entities like Manchester United parted ways with Aeroflot, a Russian airline.
However, let’s shift our focus. The FIFA World Cup has now reached its most exciting stage. The knockout rounds of the tournament are the most surprising ones. One of the biggest shockers of this World Cup was when the dark horses Morocco beat Portugal 1-0 in the quarterfinal. But now the path is clear.
