Wrexham‘s excitement for the game against Manchester United turned into a nightmare when their star striker, Paul Mullin, was taken off the field following a nasty collision. While the team managed to secure a 3-1 win at the end of the final whistle, missing their ace for the next six to eight weeks is a tremendous blow.

Paul Mullin, who started off the game for Wrexham, was taken off the field in the opening minutes. The striker was involved in a collision with United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop that saw him hit the ground. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson was fuming after the game as he informed the media about Mullin suffering a ruptured lung.

While Wrexham fans and the manager expressed their anger at the young England goalkeeper, Manchester United issued a statement defending Nathan Collins. Despite the misunderstanding, Collins was heartbroken as the Wrexham fans blamed him for the injury to their ace striker.

Wrexham’s goalkeeper for former Manchester United star, Ben Foster, took his time to meet the young goalkeeper to assure him the injury was not his fault. According to sources, Manchester United staff were pleased with Forster’s action towards Collins after he came under direct fire from Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham hoping to start League Two campaign with a bang

While Wrexham is rightly concerned about Paul Mullin’s injury, the Ryan Reynolds-owned side must focus on the games ahead. Wrexham will kick start their campaign this season with a League Two game against MK Dons on the 5th of August.

The team still has a game left in their United States tour with Wrexham slated to face Philadelphia Union II in their upcoming game. Manager Phil Parkinson has high hopes for his squad despite the injury to their ace and hopes that the team can continue their run despite his absence.

It will be interesting to see the type of approach Wrexham decides to take in the absence of Paul Mullin. Wrexham is currently rumored to be in contact with Mullin’s ex-teammate James Norwood over an alleged contract.
