The world of soccer has a few famous American club owners. Owners like the Glazer family, Stan Kroenke, and Fenway Sports Group are all very well-established American owners that own renowned soccer clubs. These American owners might not be as wealthy as the ones in Qatar, but they’ve created a legacy. If the club has a poor season, the board generates enough revenue to get in the required personnel to help get the team back to winning ways again. Now Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe’s PSG has attracted interest from the USA.

Recently, L’Équipe reported that an American firm was interested in buying a share of Paris Saint-Germain. Paris Saint-Germain is the French soccer giant based in the capital. Les Parisiens have been dominating soccer in France for over a decade now.

Do the American owners now want a sniff of success at Lionel Messi and Mbappe’s PSG?

‘Qatar Sports Investments’ have owned Les Parisiens since 2011. The Qatari owners have pumped unimaginable amounts of money every season into the French club. PSG currently owns some of the soccer world’s biggest stars, like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar.

However, L’Équipe recently reported that an American investment wanted to buy a minority stake in the Ligue 1 giants. As per rumors, the stake is around 10-15%. L’Equipe also confirmed that current PSG owners are not looking at selling more than the minority stake. The Qatari investment firm would like to stay in control of the French soccer side.

Over the years, PSG as a soccer club has spent jaw-dropping amounts of money. In 2017, PSG shocked the soccer fanbase by buying Brazilian star Neymar from Barcelona for a gigantic €222 million. Just a year later, PSG did the second most expensive deal in soccer history after paying AS Monaco €180 million for French wonder-kid Kylian Mbappe. PSG is now paying Lionel Messi €35 million as his yearly wage.

While the Qatari owners seem to be the richest in the game, fans continuously accuse them of not having proper soccer knowledge. Soccer fans claim that throwing money at every situation is not the answer to everything. It is important to build a structured squad, and it does not have to necessarily include the world’s most expensive players.

Which popular Americans have invested in soccer?

Apart from the big American owners already established in the business, we’ve also seen newer faces investing in soccer. Soccer surprisingly holds a lot of interest among NBA stars.

LeBron James has had a minor stake in Liverpool F.C. since 2011. Kevin Durant also purchased 5% of Philadelphia Union, an American soccer club. It simply doesn’t end there. NBA star James Harden also owns a 5% ownership stake at Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash.
