According to Diario AS, in the post-match interview, Dunn stated“Yeah, I think for us it’s really just learning from this moment, turning the page and almost being a goldfish, as Ted Lasso said, because we have to have short-term memory right now. I think for us, we have to focus on the next match. Between now and then, [we need to] just get together, be unified, and move forward.” The goldfish idiom is a popular one that most people can relate to.

Ted Lasso is a TV show celebrated for its entertainment and soccer. With Jason Sudeikis playing inspirational coach, it’s a fictional story about a soccer club struggling to make it to the big leagues. Similarly to the WWE, they do a fine job of not breaking the kayfabe and reality. In one episode, Ted motivates his player Sam by stating he should be a goldfish. Sam encounters difficulty adjusting to the new surroundings after experiencing homesickness. That’s when the character Jamie Tartt pushes him down to the floor and trolls him.

Afterward, Ted Lasso calls him up and wants him to be a goldfish. He describes how they were the happiest animals on earth because they had a ten-second memory; although, it is one of those shows that lives long in memory. He asks Sam to be a goldfish, which in turn helps him to raise his levels in the upcoming matches in the TV show. Despite the goldfish’s statement being a myth, sometimes placing two separate words brings out the essence of clear communication. For USWNT players, they can take advice from Ted Lasso’s playbook.

Can the team complete a three-peat?

One of the vital areas where they need to improve is during the final third phase of the game. They had 17 shots, out of which they had six on target. In the first game against Vietnam, they scored three goals. With all due respect, Vietnam is one of the lowest-ranked teams in the tournament. Yet, they failed to score more goals. Similarly, they managed one goal against the Netherlands while drawing blanks against Portugal.
