Karim Benzema appears to be treading on perilous ground, having missed training sessions for 17 days. Disciplinary measures have been imposed by coach Marcelo Gallardo, including the removal of his captaincy. Meanwhile, Al Ittihad shows no signs of relenting as the club’s management is presently contemplating stern decisions concerning the 36-year-old’s future.

Of late, there seems to be brewing discord between the French striker and the Saudi side. The situation is fueled further by Benzema’s vocal demands for reinforcements in the form of additional players being signed by the club. Having made his expectations clear, he also signaled his readiness to leave them should these conditions not materialize.

Amid ongoing turmoil, it has been informed that Karim Benzema has reported to training 17 days later than scheduled. He was originally expected on January 2nd but did not return until the evening of Thursday. According to sports media outlet RMC Sport, the Saudi club is “furious about what happened.”

Communication with the ex-Real Madrid striker reportedly remained non-existent for an entire ten-day period during which he is alleged to have vacationed in Mauritius. In light of these developments, a meeting will be held between club management and Head Coach Marcelo Gallardo concerning Benzema’s future with the team. He has reportedly been stripped off his captaincy already.

Karim Benzema has recently become a target for substantial criticism from both supporters and the club due primarily to questions surrounding his commitment to the team. Despite scoring a commendable total of nine goals so far in Saudi Pro League matches, his conduct off-pitch invites significant reproach. Even a former Al Ittihad star recently expressed strong disapproval of this conduct.

Benzema told to earn his respect

Former Brazilian midfielder, Anderson Simas Luciano, fondly known as ‘Tcheco’, recently came forward with a profound critique of Karim Benzema. Tcheco voiced his disillusionment for failing to see the expected leadership qualities in the striker. He commented, “The character cannot be purchased. Respect is earned, not bought.”

The 47-year-old further chastised him for being conspicuously absent during crucial periods. These criticisms might insinuate possible reconsideration of Benzema’s role. However, it has been adamantly clarified by the club that they have no intentions of allowing his departure during the January transfer window.

But should Benzema leave, be it in January or in the summer, there are rumors of Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea considering making a move to sign the French striker. Further, rumors also suggest that should Benzema leave, he would prefer to return to Real Madrid.
