The juggernaut of Saudi Arabian soccer pushes on with perpetual attempts to acquire the best players. After signing Cristiano Ronaldo, the Saudi Pro League will aim for players with a few more years of soccer left in the tank. Having shown interest in Kevin de Bruyne, the country is now aiming for another midfielder from Manchester, who will complement Cristiano Ronaldo.
As a result of major signings last season, the level of confidence the country has developed in its sporting project is astonishing. By acquiring then-Ballon d’Or holder Karim Benzema and treble-winner Riyad Mahrez, the profile of their players, teams, and the league has risen significantly.

Manchester United indirectly influenced the current status of soccer in Saudi. After a spat with manager Erik ten Hag last season, the league titled the scale in its favor and acquired Ronaldo. But more of the same seems to be on the way, as Saudi Arabia’s PIF is considering Bruno Fernandes for their next summer signing, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.
The transfer journalist from Italy dropped the news on Twitter (now X), saying that PIF, Saudi’s main investor in transfers, is getting ready to open the parachute in next summer’s window. Furthermore, officials could schedule a meeting to convene with Bruno’s crew. Even though it is not confirmed yet, Fernandes could reunite with his countryman Ronaldo at Al Nassr.

Particularly, Saudi Arabia’s PIF owns a major stake in four major clubs, including the Riyadh-based Al Nassr. Bruno Fernandes quashed some of his critics by scoring a clutch winner against Fulham in United’s last game. Aware of his potential, the PIF will likely have an increased interest in signing the Portuguese midfielder.

Recently, it was also reported that the Saudis were interested in signing Kevin de Bruyne. The 4th-ranked player in the Ballon d’Or is suffering from a hamstring injury and is currently out of the Manchester City squad. However, the Gulf may persist in offering what seems to be a $75 million pullout from Pep Guardiola’s side. With the talisman’s contract set to expire in 2025, anything could be possible.

However, neither the current Premier League holders nor the player seems to be in a rush. This is not the only venture for Saudis. The country has already gone wild by gaining the rights to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Parallel to soccer, it will also host next year’s eSports World Cup. It looks like the game has just begun in the Middle East.
