The VAR still continues to create drama among experts and journalists. This time it’s the decision in yesterday’s match between Manchester City and Chelsea. Usually known to provide opinions and take jabs at players like Lionel Messi, British broadcaster Piers Morgan now targets Erling Haaland after he scored a penalty.

Morgan has been quite vocal about various issues in soccer. But senior journalists are known to get critical of Manchester City’s overall performances. And now, Morgan threw the Manchester City under the bus with a bizarre remark.

The 57-year-old journalist called Manchester City out during their victories. Morgan also undermined their treble, calling Arsenal’s unbeaten streak in the 2003–2004 season better. The veteran now targets Haaland, comparing him to an eight-limbed mollusk for being reckless inside the box. Morgan mentioned, “Another day, another VAR fiasco. Haaland behaves like a hyperactive octopus but gets a penalty. Absurd.”

Morgan got annoyed by Haaland moving freely inside the box with his hands placed open. In the game, Haaland scored a brace, and the first goal came through the penalty that Morgan is referring to. They gave the penalty after VAR intervened, calling it in the favor of the Citizens.

With many experts calling out the VAR, Morgan did not miss a chance to criticize the technology. The VAR has been subject to scrutiny for the past few weeks. The disallowed Luis Diaz goal against Tottenham Hotspur sparked the boiling point of the ongoing debate. However, Morgan, this time, chose to confront Haaland, whom he supported during the Ballon d’Or.
