The recent match between Argentina and Brazil was supposed to be an exciting thriller between two of the best soccer teams in history. However, the off-pitch activities were merely a distraction from the main game; they were controversial, to say the least. Brazil winger Rodrygo and the national team president were attacked with racial slurs on social media after the game. Consequently, the Brazilian soccer federation, CBF, has decided to escalate the matter to the law.

The arrival of social media has been seen to be causing increased incidents of name-calling and shaming. But an even bigger concern is that users tend to get away by trying to harm the morale and rights of an individual. The recent incident called for action immediately by the Brazilian Federation.

Even though the abuses may come online, they still have a huge impact on the target person. After dealing with issues for a long time, CBF has decided it’s high time to deal with them more severely. On Friday, the federation announced that it would file a complaint against the authors of such messages according to reports. The statement given by them mentions they “suffered violent racist attacks throughout this week. Such attacks compared Brazilian players and fans to monkeys. In addition, the crimes also affected the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.”
