Anitta is a Brazilian singer who has come to the forefront of pop music in recent years. She began her singing career in 2013 and is now widely regarded as the biggest Brazilian artist of her generation. Anitta recently swept up an award at the 2023 MTV VMAs and Neymar was quick to congratulate her.

The Brazilian soccer star Neymar took to social media to congratulate Anitta on her achievement of winning an award at the MTV VMA ceremony. He reposted a post from Anitta’s official account with a picture of her accepting the award. The Brazilian pop star picked up the award in the ‘Best Latin’ category. Also, she performed some of her hits namely Used To Be, Funk Rave, and Grip at the recent MTV VMAs.

The Al Hilal forward posted a story on his Instagram account which stated, “We have to start giving more value to our Brazilian offspring… Congratulations @anitta for taking our music and our country to the top of the world”, as translated by DeepL. Without a doubt, Neymar’s appreciation for Anitta went viral on social media in no time. Whilst on stage, the singer was quick to thank her fans too.

As reported in Rolling Stone, Anitta said, “We’re here again Brazil. We’re here again, Thank you so much to my fans. Without you, I would be nothing. And thanks to me!” “I want to thank myself because I work so hard… You’re gonna hear more Brazilian funk in the world right now. This is the beginning”. Interestingly, all this has happened months after their ‘threesome’ rumors!

Anitta was rumored to be Neymar’s ex-girlfriend, and reports suggested that she was involved in a threesome with Neymar, as reported in the Daily Star. However, Anitta has since issued a statement denying the incident saying, “nothing happened” between her and the Brazil soccer star and that they’ve “been friends for many, many years”.

Neymar breaks Pele’s long-lasting record

Meanwhile, for Neymar, it was a historic week to remember. The former PSG forward broke Brazil legend Pele’s goal-scoring record for the Selecao. This was in Brazil’s 5-1 rout of Bolivia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers that took place during the recent international break. The Al Hilal forward scored what was his 78th and 79th goal in the colors of Brazil, overtaking Pele’s record of 77 goals set between 1957 and 1971.

Neymar took to Instagram to recognize Pele and pen a 3-word tribute after surpassing the legend’s record. Pele’s foundation also congratulated Neymar for his achievement. However, the international break is now over and the soccer veteran is yet to make his debut for his new club Al Hilal following his move from PSG this summer. The Brazil ace was out injured after sustaining a knock on his ankle in February. But it now looks as though he could feature for his new club for the first time in the Saudi Pro League in the upcoming game.
