The Wrexham women’s team finished third in the Adran Premier League, the highest level of Women’s soccer in Wales. Powering them through was the ever-impressive Rosie Hughes. Since joining the Red Dragons in 2021, the attacker has plundered 108 goals in 62 matches! Her form was more or less the same this campaign as she picked up the Wrexham Women’s Player of the Season award. Yet surprisingly, she was snubbed in the Adran Premier League TOTY despite her goal exploits, sharing a fate similar to Paul Mullin.

Two Wrexham players made the cut for the Genero Adran Premier Team of the season. They are midfielder Lili Jones and left-back Phoebe Davies. The two attacking positions have been snapped up by Cardiff City players Eliza Collie and Molly Kehoe. It seems the reason for Rosie Hughes’ snub was the collective performance.

Last season in the Adran Premier League, Cardiff City finished first with 52 points. On the other hand, Rosie Hughes and Wrexham accumulated 35 points. This would have influenced the TOTY selection to a large extent. The story was similar for Paul Mullin. The striker had an impressive season after netting 24 goals in 38 games. But, he couldn’t get in the League Two TOTY ahead of Macaulay Langstaff (Notts County) and Matt Smith (Salford City).

Paul Mullin should consider himself unlucky with how impressive he was in Wrexham securing promotion. Moreover, Langstaff and Smith did not have great collective seasons and their teams finished outside the top 10. Mullin would be hoping that a good showing in League One might help him secure individual prizes next season. But here again, Langstaff might be there to spoil the party.

Wrexham keen on signing the Paul Mullin conqueror

Last season, Macaulay Langstaff was the only player to score more in League Two than Paul Mullin. Consequently, his performances seem to have caught the eye of those at STōK Cae Ras. As per reports, Ryan Reynolds is keen on bringing Macaulay Langstaff to the club. The plan is that Langstaff will partner with Mullin and not replace him. Yet, the operation won’t be easy.

It is estimated that the financial outlay for the Langstaff operation would be a club-record fee. Currently, the biggest purchase in Wrexham’s history is Ollie Palmer for $440k. The Red Dragons have a budget of around $7 million for transfers. Hence, there is optimism that a deal can be agreed. Also, the Welsh side won’t be forced into a transfer as they have a number of alternatives lined up. The most prominent one is a name that would send fans into a frenzy, Premier League legend Jamie Vardy!
