The multimillions invested in him are just turning out to be glimpses of a potential crucible. Arriving in Saudi with a grand welcome, things haven’t been great as yet for Neymar Jr. Being out for quite some time may have stolen his sting, but the Brazilian sensation is looking at bigger repercussions. Al Hilal FC’s management and fans have certain expectations which, if not met, could put others under the radar.

Neymar moved to Al Hilal to explore different challenges, but the Brazilian skills will definitely be examined. After a lot of investment, the club will not leave any stone unturned until its purpose is met. The idea will be to keep the reputation of being Asia’s best.

Al Hilal kicked off their AFC Champions League campaign yesterday against Uzbekistan’s Navbahor. It was a rather odd day for the Arab club, which was not getting a clear grip on the game. Navbahor dragged them to a 1-1 draw.

The game also saw Neymar struggling to find breath amongst the Navbahor’s players. The 31-year-old was left frustrated, evident by his grimaces. To add salt to injury, he further received a yellow card for pushing an opponent player away.

Reports claim that such performances in the continental campaign could affect coach Jorge Jesus. According to sources, “the results of the coming days/weeks will determine Jorge Jesus’ future with Al Hilal”

The 4-time champions just snatched a draw from the jaws of death, thanks to its defender Ali Albulayhi, who headed the ball into the left corner of the post in the 100th minute.

The 14-minute extension of stoppage time seemed to have been a savior for Neymar and the coach. Jorge Jesus, who rejoined the club after a four-year separation, arrived during the club’s reformation.

Al Hilal finished 3rd in the Saudi Pro League last year and was defeated in last year’s Champions League final against Urawa Red Diamonds. Therefore, they will count on Jesus’ recent success with Fenerbahçe to rub off on them.

The Uzbek team came up with a clear strategy against the Saudi giant. The game involved a lot of stoppages and physical activity by the players, stretching the game to a mammoth 14-minute extra.

Jorge Jesus was furious after the match, claiming to have never seen such a thing in his soccer life. He felt they (Navbahor) were focussing only on wasting time and not on the gameplay. The game-wasting strategy claimed by Jesus was breaking his team’s rhythm and was not the type of game he was used to.

The former Sporting CP player turned manager coached many successful clubs around the globe. The recent challenge posed by Navbahor would be considered an important learning for him for the rest of the season.
