After a match that went to the last minute, Wrexham AFC is busy planning its next move. Given the chances of the automatic promotion have since increased, the club is considering investing a significant amount in the Racecourse Ground.
According to various reports, the Wrexham council will discuss the possible funding for the soccer club in the upcoming meeting. There is a high belief that the team’s current performance might drive the government to agree with the proposal.
However, the council has cleared that there are several potential bidders for the funding. Adjacent to the Kop stand, the project is worth around 31 million USD. The council’s priority might be the Racecourse Ground. The recent last-minute win against Notts County might make a solid case for the Red Dragons.

The new owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have already invested around 12 million USD. This particular amount went to the stadium expansion. It was one of the promises the Hollywood duo made to the fans during the acquisition. They have been true to their words and had significantly upgraded the home of Wrexham.

Wrexham.com reported the council has just released a statement saying, “A new way to finance a key part of the Wrexham Gateway project–which includes building a new kop stand at the Racecourse football ground–is being proposed to the Council’s Executive Board subject to completion of legal and commercial agreements.”

“Wrexham Council, Wrexham AFC, and other partners have been working on alternative finance plan after a bid for Levelling Up money was unsuccessful earlier this year. The new proposals will help ensure funding can be drawn from a variety of sources from both the public and private sectors–approximately 50% from each–and pave the way for future funding bids to support the scheme.”
With this decision going their side, Wrexham AFC can begin their almost inevitable ascend to the fourth tier of UK soccer. The team has spent about one and a half decades in the 5th tier. It might finally be their time to shine.
