The drama of the last 90 days is waning but has not ended yet. It has been three months since Lionel Messi announced his new home for the next couple of years. The chances of Inter Miami progressing to the playoffs, however, recently took a blow. And so, Messi may take the route of Thierry Henry and David Beckham.
Inter Miami is the latest franchise to be added to the MLS in the 2020 season. The club did not win any trophy until their recent League Cup win, a charge spearheaded by the Argentine. Amidst Messi’s injury woes, however, if they fail to make it to the playoffs, Messi may look for a move away from Miami.

The Inter Miami captain has been off the pitch for a month, but once back, Messi would not be having much soccer to play. MLS is known to loan players to Europe, but in Messi’s case, it is still uncertain about his next steps. The team needs a miracle to stay alive in the season.
🚨Important: In MLS, if a team doesn't make the playoffs, they can loan a player on a short-term loan deal to a European club. 👀

Even Inter Miami’s co-owner David Beckham and France legend Thierry Henry returned to Europe for a short spell of loans. Becks had gone to AC Milan from the LA Galaxy in 2009 to keep himself in touch with the game. The Inter Miami owner joined in January 2009 and played till July of the same year, missing one half of the season.

Thierry Henry also went to Arsenal for a short 2-month spell from New York Red Bulls that saw him play just four games for his old club. Messi, although not too long since he joined the team, can see this as an actual possibility. Meanwhile, at Miami, with the Argentine absent for a month, Inter Miami’s graph has declined.
Set back for Lionel Messi and Inter Miami
The team has just won a single game against the last-placed Toronto FC since Messi was substituted in the first half of the same game. With a series of continuous losses, the chances of making it to the playoffs look increasingly dim. Yesterday’s 4-1 loss to Chicago Fire has put them on the edge needing other results also going their way. They need to win their next three games to have any chances for the wild card entry.

Unlike European soccer, which runs midway through the year, MLS starts around February and runs till December. If Inter Miami’s journey for the season ends this month, Messi could probably think of a short European stint during the break.
