Ever since Gerard Pique retired from soccer, the Barcelona legend has been in the news for business ventures. The Spaniard is the co-founder of ‘Kosmos Holding’ under which he has come up with an innovative soccer tournament ‘King’s League’. The new-age tournament is a 7-a-side soccer league with whacky and unconventional rules. It’s entertainment on steroids and has been a super hit among the Gen Zs so far.

While many thought Pique must have meticulously planned before entering into this business; in a recent conversation, the Barcelona legend revealed that it was not the case. In fact, it all happened because of his decisive mistake in the Champions League against Inter Milan.

During last night’s Twitch stream, Ibai Llanos and Gerard Pique were revisiting Pique’s defensive error that ousted Barca from the Champions League. Many to this date believe that this was the reason why the Spaniard decided to call it quits on his illustrious career. Pique for the first time confirmed this theory. Meanwhile, Ibai insinuated that this $57,700,000 error fast-tracked his decision to retire and hence start the King’s League.

“Without this mistake there might not be a Kings League,” Piqué said. Ibai Llanos then added: “If you didn’t make this mistake here, there wouldn’t have been a Kings League because maybe Barça would have passed the group stage and I think you wouldn’t have retired.” However, the Spaniard later did a U-turn by suggesting he would’ve hung up his boost regardless. “If things had gone well, I would have retired at the end of the season,” revealed Pique.

All said and done, Pique’s decision to retire and set up the King’s League has turned out to be a masterstroke for him. Despite facing rejection, it’s commendable how the Barca defender has managed to take the King’s League where it is today!

Later in the stream, Llanos quipped Pique about his initial pitches. Surprisingly, the Spaniard dropped a bombshell by revealing he had first approached popular Twitch streamer Auronplay to be one of the Presidents of the League. “I threw him a message and said: ‘We sit down that there is a project that can be interesting,'” said Pique.

However, the deal didn’t go down as the streamer took a bit too much to respond. Unfortunately by then, all the spots were reserved. Hence Pique couldn’t even pitch the proposal to the streamer. “In the end, I didn’t even explain to him what the Kings league was and there was no real proposal,” revealed the Spaniard.
