The Welsh side, Wrexham, continues to be linked with numerous players as they aim to bolster their squad. One of the players that caught their attention was former Manchester United prodigy, Nick Powell.
However, to the dismay of Ryan Reynold‘s Wrexham and its fans, Powell recently signed a three-year contract with their direct rivals, Stockport County. In a recent interview, the $980,000 worth star shed light on his decision not to join Wrexham, despite the interest they showed in him.

Nick Powell, a versatile attacking midfielder who can also play up front, made a surprising move by leaving Stoke City earlier in the summer to join Stockport County. He is eagerly awaiting his debut with The Hatters under a three-year contract. What’s intriguing is that Powell was in talks with Wrexham before deciding to join Stockport.
After almost two months of being a free agent following his departure from Stoke City, Powell expressed his gratitude for the interest shown by Wrexham. As per stokesentinel.co.uk, he stated, “I had a chat [with Wrexham]. It was a really good chat. I’d never say anything bad about somebody that showed interest in me. I think that’s just nice within itself. The conversation was good. I’ve got my reasons [joining Stockport]. And I still stand by them.”
Nick Powell’s journey in football has seen its fair share of highs and lows. Named Stoke’s Player of the Year in 2021, he faced two subsequent seasons marred by injuries, leading to his release from the team at the end of the last term.
Powell considering all options
Apart from Wrexham and Stockport, Powell also mentioned that he was in communication with teams in Saudi Arabia. However, he admitted feeling unsure and uncomfortable about those opportunities.

He expressed, “Without going deep into it, you don’t know what’s over there. I have loads of texts saying, ‘go here, go there’. I didn’t know if one was an agent. I didn’t know if he was a coach. I can’t really comment on it. I mean, if I was purely chasing money, I’d have happily gone. I’ve got no problem saying that. If I was gonna get £10 million like everyone else, you best believe I’d have been there. But no, there were conversations. There just wasn’t anything concrete.”
Powell rose to prominence when he played for Crewe Alexandra. His performances not only inspired the team’s promotion from League Two but also led to his transfer to Manchester United while he was still a teenager.
