Welcome to Wrexham season 3 was a massive hit. The success of the series owes its credit to the revamped storytelling approach. The show took a lot of inspiration from Manchester City’s All or Nothing docuseries, which showed Pep Guardiola’s locker-room interactions with players. Similarly, the Wrexham documentary had more dressing room scenes, notably Phil Parkinson shouting at his players. Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment is more than happy with how the show has been received. As a result, the show has been renewed for a 4th season with FX lavishing praise on the club owners’ vision.

Nick Grad commended the historic season for the Red Dragons. He said, “Wrexham AFC has exceeded all expectations on the pitch and with fans, scoring back-to-back promotions under the leadership of Rob and Ryan and rising to compete in League One next season. ” Notably, the side spent 15 years in the National League when the Hollywood duo bought the club. As a result, there is no doubt regarding their transformative impact at STōK Cae Ras.

Moreover, Grad also acknowledged the success of the documentary. The Welcome to Wrexham has picked up 5 Emmy awards and this tally could increase with the upcoming season. The series has succeeded in helping establish a genuine connection with the fans. Unlike other sports documentaries, the show also chronicles the lives of people in the Welsh community. This has given the club a more wholesome identity than just being a soccer team.

Welcome to Wrexham proved to be a masterstroke by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. However, their next major plan for the Red Dragons is something of a much larger scale.

Currently, Racecourse Ground has a capacity of over 12000. The ongoing renovation works will see that figure jump up to 16000. But, even that is just one-third of what Reynolds and McElhenney have in mind.  On the Fearless in Devotion podcast, the owners revealed their plan for the Wrexham stadium. McElhenney said, “We have a plan in place right now that we would eventually work from stand to stand, so eventually all 4 sides. It’s hard to say for sure, but we think we can get between 45 and 55 thousand people in there.”

As per Ryan Reynolds, the rationale behind this expansion is that they want ‘whole town‘ can come attend games. This could also help him to lure his friend Taylor Swift. Previously, the Deadpool actor had stated that having Swift and Beyonce perform at Racecourse Ground would be a problem, owing to the limited seats. The expansion would take a long time, but is remarkable how the Hollywood owners have transformed the trajectory of the club.
