Gone are those days when European soccer dominated the world stage. In the words of Cristiano Ronaldo, they have lost their charm compared to the other leagues in the world. Notably, the Saudi Pro League and MLS have come to the forefront and shocked fans with their extravagant spending and pulling power. Therefore, CR7 and Lionel Messi have positively impacted the league after arriving with much fanfare. It has skyrocketed Inter Miami to the galaxy. But the rest of the teams want a radical change. Apart from changing turfs to natural grass, other changes can improve the league.

Having Messi in the league, the entire landscape of the US soccer scenario changed after the World Cup winner’s arrival. The boost in merchandising, match day income, and other sponsorships can grow the economy of the club and the entire city. Well now, the other owners want a piece of that frosty cake!

Diving deeper into the history of the US soccer picture, the leagues always had financial pitfalls and could not sustain them for long. The losses kept incurring, and just like Messi, Pele arrived at New York Cosmos to change the face of the league. But the star failed to shine massively. However, the situation has changed. The MLS is more stable and geared towards improvement in all areas of the pitch. And one owner stressed the importance of maximizing Messi’s arrival for most teams.

Charlotte FC owner David Tepper voiced his opinions on the league’s rule changes. According to the Athletic, he stated, “Yes, I would like less roster restrictions so we could spend more money.” Currently, each team has three Designated Spots (DP), which they can use to spend lavishly on players.

Messi and Sergio Busquets arrived in Inter Miami under the DP spots. However, it doesn’t actually mean the club wins everything in their path right away. After those DP spots are filled, the clubs use targeted allocation money (TAM), general allocation money (GAM), and the league’s U-22 initiative to recruit young players and build the competition up.

Lionel Messi creates an everlasting impact on the league

Similar to the DP spots, the talking point remains about using artificial turfs in the league. When European clubs prefer to have their surface as natural grass, most surfaces are being revamped upon Messi’s arrival. Using artificial grass can cause injuries to players, and are shifting those pitches. Thus, they have changed the entire landscape of the league following the World Cup winner joining Inter Miami. Considering Messi’s arrival, the teams can maximize the current trends in their pockets by capturing the attention of the MLS.
