Lionel Messi has been in electric form for Inter Miami CF since joining them this summer. He led the Miami side to their first-ever Leagues Cup title and the US Open Cup final with his first eight matches for the club. Marking his MLS debut against New York Red Bulls at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, Messi left New Yorkers disappointed as he didn’t start the game at the Red Bull Arena. With some fans paying up to $20,000 for the tickets to watch Messi, they had to wait till second-half to witness their favorite star player in action.

The 7x-Ballon d’Or winner was given a deserving rest in his last outing, with him coming off the bench at the 60th-minute mark. Inter Miami CF head coach and boss Gerard Martino highlighted an important update regarding the Argentine ahead of their next game, which might impress his fans.

Inter Miami’s last outing against New York Red Bulls saw Tata Martino benching the former Barcelona stars, Messi and Busquets for the match. With both the stars entering the pitch after an hour’s mark, Miami successfully cliched a 2-0 victory against their opposition, with Messi scoring on his MLS debut.

Lionel Messi starting on the bench in his first MLS game left fans disappointed and chanting his name throughout the first half. But, according to an update from Franco Panizo, who is a founder and co-host for the Inter Miami CF podcast, Tata Martino confirms the availability of Lionel Messi for the next MLS game.

After earning some well-earned rest in the Red Bulls game, Tata Martino says that Lionel Messi will start against Nashville FC if everything goes as planned. Franco Panizo tweeted a video of Martino’s press conference in which he said, “I think the game he needed and the key one to get some rest was the last one in New York, same as Busquets. If there are no issues, he should (start).”

The Herons’ fans will be excited to see their star signing start for his home debut in the MLS. They defeated Nashville on penalties in the Leagues Cup final just a few weeks ago, and they will be eager to repeat that result in front of their home fans.

Tata Martino confirms that Messi won’t play every game

Inter Miami head coach Tata Martino stated previously that Messi could potentially miss at least three games for Miami in September, when he’ll receive the call to serve his home country in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers. With Miami fighting for their place in the MLS playoffs, it will be interesting to see how well the squad performs without Lionel Messi.

It’s something we have to get accustomed to,” said Martino. “He’s going to miss at least three games. He’s going to get called up by his national team and we need to keep winning.”

For now, Martino will be focused on Wednesday’s clash against Nashville FC, who have lost six of their last seven MLS matches. A win for Miami could move them up the table and closer to New York City FC, who sits five points ahead of them. Messi and Co. will be focused on clinching the victory for the South Florida side and leading them through to playoffs.

Inter Miami will next be in action when they host Nashville FC at DRV PNK Stadium on Wednesday.
