It was a period of tremendous joy for Lionel Messi and his fans recently. German giants, Bayern Munich recently seemed to have honored the Argentine once again after their tribute of placing his jersey in the club museum in 2018. Yesterday, fans could see that the Bavarians’ Instagram account was following the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner. However, the moment looks to have completed its lifespan as there’s an unexpected twist.
Per reports now, the club has taken a U-turn by suddenly unfollowing Lionel Messi, just hours after the news of Bayern following the veteran broke the internet. The Blaugrana icon was the first player who did not play for Bayern Munich but yet was followed by the reigning Bundesliga champions. However, the party is now over and the lights are out! Bayern Munich’s drastic step against Lionel Messi- What does it mean?
The incident has become one of a kind. There was never an occasion where the club followed an outside player and also unfollowed them on social media within hours. However, this isn’t the first time a social media saga has surrounded the World Cup winner. The ex-Ligue 1 star also unfollowed Paris Saint-Germain after he left the club in a bittersweet state. In the current scenario, nothing changes for both parties, as it looks.
The fact remains that Bayern’s 2018 tribute to Lionel Messi, one of the best in soccer for a rival player, is still in place. The 8-time Ballon d’Or winner had presented German legend, Gerd Muller, with a signed jersey after scoring 91 goals in 2012.
