Before departing for MLS, Lionel Messi had dominated European soccer for over a decade. The Argentine has excelled with some remarkable records, not only at his boyhood club FC Barcelona but also during his stint at PSG. But as his European journey came to an end, his dominance was also challenged by some of the generation’s finest talents, including one of Kylian Mbappe’s PSG teammates.
Meanwhile, a few players from the Parisian clubs are at risk of suspension due to their eyebrow-raising antics in their recent match.

This might be quite an eyebrow-raising fact but Messi was the last free-kick scorer at Barcelona, PSG, Argentina, and Inter Miami. Earlier, Barcelona’s $32 million rated star Ferran Torres ended the Catalans’ 868 days of drought. He netted a stunning freekick from 20 yards during their clash against Real Betis.
Now, Mbappe’s PSG teammate has ended Messi’s free-kick dominance at the Parc des Princes. In PSG’s recent 4-0 win against Marseille, Achraf Hakimi scored a stunning free-kick. He struck the ball cleanly, sending it flying beyond Pau Lopez’s upper-left corner. With this outstanding goal, he has ended Messi’s free-kick dominance at the French capital.

While Neymar was sidelined, it was Messi who had been the last free-kick scorer for the Ligue 1 side. Hakimi has not only ended Messi’s PSG record but in fact, has ended his overall European dominance, leaving only Argentina and Inter Miami as the remaining teams where a player other than Messi has yet to score a free-kick. Certainly, it was glorious while it lasted.
However, as Hakimi receives praise for his free-kick prowess, his recent behavior after the match, along with his teammates, may lead to unwelcome trouble in the form of potential suspensions.

These eyebrow-raising chants have brought trouble to the doorsteps of the aforementioned players. Apparently, the league intends to initiate an investigation and examine the images before a scheduled meeting on Wednesday. If the incidents are confirmed, the players involved may face disciplinary actions, potentially including suspension.
