The Serie A game between AC Milan and Fiorentina hit the right notes. It had goals, fights, misses, and even chaos on whom should take the penalties. It became an embarrassing sequence of events when Fikayo Tomori jumped high to take the ball and gave it to Tammy Abraham. With Christian Pulisic on penalty duties, he didn’t get the chance to score his second goal, as Tammy Abraham missed it.

Likewise, Theo Hernandez took the first penalty and David De Gea saved it again to keep Fiorentina in the match. Yes, it became a talking point about how Christian Pulisic didn’t take the penalty. They lost the contest 2-1 to Fiorentina and Paulo Fonseca couldn’t believe what he just watched.

“Our penalty taker is Pulisic. I don’t know why the players changed their minds. I spoke to him and said that it must not happen again,” said Fonseca after the match. The first penalty came in the first half as Theo Hernandez struck to his right. The Spanish goalkeeper made a stunning dive and kept the ball out of the net. Moreover, they had their second penalty in the second half as Tammy Abraham shot to his left. But, De Gea again dived at full stretch, to the delight of the fans inside the stadium.

This spot-kick saga clearly displeased Fonseca, as he labeled the penalty fiasco as a ‘circus’. Christian Pulisic, though, was in amazing form as she scored a well-placed volley to bring his team back. Earlier, he scored a goal in the Rossoneri’s victory over Venezia and the coach wants him to take all the penalties again. In the meantime, fans wanted to get thick into the debate as they voiced their disapproval of Tomori and Tammy, who were ex-Chelsea teammates.

Fans outraged over the behavior of two AC Milan stars in taking the ball away from Christian Pulisic

Did Tomori and Tammy's penalty blunder cost AC Milan the game against Fiorentina?

Have an interesting take?

As soon as the video surfaced on social media, X users went wild in their comments. One user mentioned, “Tomori close friends with Tammy so he does that. This is pathetic, we need a leader in the team than bums like Tomori” with a clown emoji at the end. For years, Tomori has been at the heart of the AC Milan defense. He went on to win the Scudetto with Stefan Pioli and became a mainstay in the defense. But, his conduct in giving the ball to his friend Tammy Abraham irked the fans. One fan mentioned, “Drop Tomori ASAP,” after the incident.

Another user pointed out, “Next penalty Milan gets and Pulisic takes it the pressure has just quadrupled on him because of this. Let him build his penalty confidence even though he is 10/10 on penalties the pressure to convert has now just gone through the roof.” Personally, I believe this user is right. The whole world will watch who takes the next penalty of AC Milan and if it is Christian Pulisic, he would have the pressure to score. But his record from the spot is outstanding. He scored 10 penalties so far and missed none. Giving a run for Cristiano Ronaldo’s money, eh?

“Isn’t that the managers decision?” stated one fan who supports the man in charge, Fonseca. Usually, the manager selects the penalty kick takers, but we saw it transpire before our eyes when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge of Chelsea. Last season, Cole Palmer was Chelsea’s main man from the spot-kick. Nonetheless, Nicolas Jackson wanted to take the kick but had to be taken away by his teammates. More often, these things happen, but hopefully, the players can come together to solve the situation.

Alas, a user stated, “Benching them for a few matches should make a clear statement.” Remember Manchester City, under Roberto Martinez? The manager substituted star forward Mario Balotelli after he attempted a trick to score. Although it is not a penalty, Mancini took him off immediately to discipline him. Similarly, this fan wants both Tomori and Tammy to be on the bench.

To sum up, it became a controversial choice. If Tammy Abraham scored, it would not have boiled down to this. But there is no hiding place as we hope Christian Pulisic resumes his penalty duties, in the next match. Can’t wait for him to score, honestly!
