In a twist worthy of Hollywood, Tom Holland, the on-screen Spider-Man, has recently showered praise on another Argentine player, this time donning the Hotspur jersey.

Tom Holland, the renowned Hollywood actor celebrated for his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has passionately supported Tottenham Hotspur for several years. His affection for the club blossomed during Tottenham’s memorable journey to the 2019 Champions League Final, and he has remained a devoted fan ever since.

Tom Holland’s praise for a Tottenham star

In a recent interview held alongside his brother, Harry Holland, at the BMW PGA Championship, Tom Holland couldn’t contain his admiration for a Tottenham star who has been enjoying a stellar season for both club and country. This player, Holland openly confessed, has always held a special place in his heart.

The player in question is none other than Tottenham’s defender, Cristian Romero. When asked about Romero’s performance, Tom Holland enthusiastically remarked, “Yeah, I mean, I’ve always thought Romero was absolutely mustard, so it’s nice to see him peaking and doing really well.”

Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero has recently started making waves in soccer, mainly due to his outstanding performances in the Premier League. His reputation was significantly boosted when Lionel Messi praised him after a match against Ecuador.

Lionel Messi endorses Cristian Romero after their win against Ecuador

Lionel Messi, the Argentine superstar and arguably the greatest footballer of all time, didn’t hold back in endorsing Romero. Messi declared, “He’s the best defender in the world right now. Having him at the back is the best thing that can happen for me.” Messi further added, “He always forces me to move on because he always wants to play one-on-one with his opponent.”

Romero‘s journey to Tottenham was not without its twists and turns. He initially joined the Premier League side on loan from Serie A club Atalanta in August 2021. But, a year later, he made the move permanent.

On the international stage, Cristian Romero has been nothing short of exceptional. In 2021, he was pivotal in guiding Argentina to victory in the Copa America. He was a vital member of the Argentine team that clinched the FIFA World Cup in Qatar the following year.  Currently, Romero is busy representing Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Where he helped his team keep a clean sheet against Ecuador in the first qualifying fixture.
