“He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else. Hearing his voice is painful.” These were the sentiments expressed by USWNT star Trinity Rodman as she recently opened up about her feelings toward her father, Dennis Rodman. Although the NBA legend attempted to make amends with a “Sorry I wasn’t the dad you wanted me to be” apology, this gesture fell short for the Washington Spirit forward, who ultimately dismissed his apology.

Of course, Trin has every right to be upset with her father—a daughter who, along with her brother DJ, was raised by their mother Michelle Moyer after Dennis left the family at an early age, with only sporadic meetings despite both of his children making a name for themselves in the sports world. Even his past behavior has left scars that the Washington Spirit star will never forget. No wonder, in the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper, Trin didn’t hold back and took a critical stance toward her iconic basketballer father.

Those words caught the attention of Dennis, who posted a lengthy apology on his social media. However, that holds no interest for Trinity, who feels it’s too late to mend things. She reposted her father’s apology on Instagram stories, accompanied by an angry caption stating, “Nice repost. A joke. The response alone. And the attention. Wiping my hands with it. I’m done. Thank you.”

It is clear that Trinity Rodman has set firm boundaries with her father, who made efforts to mend their relationship. However, it appears this path is permanently closed from the perspective of the USWNT standout, as she shows no desire to rekindle a bond that now she deems irreparable. Now let’s delve into what exactly comprised Dennis Rodman’s apology.

In his message, the Detroit Pistons icon wrote, “I will keep trying even when you’re being told as an adult not to respond to my phone calls. I will try even when it’s difficult and if it takes a long time. I’m always here and tell you all the time – rather it’s your voice or voicemail – how proud I am.”

“I always had one wish and it was I wish my kids would call me and come see me. Hopefully one day I can get that. I’m here and I’m still trying pick up the phone you have my number. You see me calling, I’m still here,” he wrote, sharing how he watches Trinity play soccer “all the time” and once traveled to watch a game, only to end up watching from his hotel balcony after being advised not to attend because of the company he was with.

During the 2021 NWSL playoff quarterfinal match between Washington Spirit and North Carolina Courage, the post-match moments saw the father and daughter hugging each other, along with heartfelt messages, implying that their strained relationship seemed to heal. However, it turned out to be a hoax, as despite Dennis suggesting they catch up again later, there was complete “radio silence” between them after the 2023 World Cup.

She called herself ‘stupid’ for believing that each meeting with her dad could be the start of something new. “He’s popping in whenever he wants to be on camera. Even when at that game, I don’t think it was for me. I think he wanted to have a good conscience and be headlined, ‘Dennis Rodman showed up to his daughter’s game in an important quarterfinal of her rookie year’ and that’s exactly what it was,” remarked Trinity in her controversial podcast discussion.

So, do you think that with this new message, Dennis Rodman was interested in gaining attention and improving his public image, trying to rewrite the negative narrative against him? While Trinity would agree after hearing her response, we’d love to know your thoughts in the comments.
