Back when Lionel Messi was in Europe with Barcelona, the Argentine superstar was a part of some enthralling matches, including the iconic El Clasico. La Pulga has often managed to silence the Bernabeu with his soccer prowess. Interestingly, the soccer veteran recently reignited those memories by singling out his career’s favorite goal.
In a conversation with France Football, he was asked to reveal his favorite goal from his 800+ career goals. The veteran started talking about the goals in the finals of the Champions League and World Cup. He added, “I don’t know, a goal that I always remember and I don’t go much for the goal and for what the goals mean, it’s the goal against Real Madrid, which we beat 2-0 in that Champions League semifinal, at the Bernabeu. I think that the most significant goals are always the most important ones, but for now, I would stick with one of those.”
Despite scoring out-of-the-world freekicks in the dying moments of games or chipping the ball above the keepers, the 36-year-old crowns his decade-old goal against Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid as his best one.

The 2010/11 semifinals of the Champions League was declared an El Clasico after Barcelona defeated Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid got past Tottenham Hotspur in the quarterfinals. The first leg took place at the Santiago Bernabeu, where both sides couldn’t find a goal in the first half. Somehow, Pep Guardiola’s side managed to unlock the defense as Messi broke the deadlock in the 76th minute.
Moments later, La Pulga passed the ball to Sergio Busquets, who left the ball for Messi. The little magician managed to dribble past four Madrid players and neatly tuck the ball in the bottom-left corner by beating Iker Casillas.
