It is arguably the biggest dream of every sports fan to see their sporting icon in person at least once in a lifetime. Such a lot gathered in thousands in Miami to welcome their icon Lionel Messi to the MLS side, Inter Miami. While fans’ long wait to see Messi was finally put to an end, there was a young Messi fan in Miami, who had a different wish of the 2022 World Cup champion.

When word got out that Lionel Messi has landed in Miami, a six-year-old fan named Edwin Burgos counted days struggling to see Messi and ask the player for a wish. However, the young boy’s struggles are over. He has got a beautiful smile spread across his face, courtesy of Lionel Messi.

For some fans, meeting their favorite sporting icon is just not enough. Some want an autograph, some crave a picture. Six-year-old Messi fan Edwin Burgos wanted his meeting with Messi to be a lifelong memory. Edwin wanted Leo Messi to sign an autograph on his soccer shoes. Anyhow, it is a task easier said than done.

Edwin Burgos walked the streets of Miami with his soccer shoes for days and hours, hoping to see Messi and get his signature. As it happened, the young boy’s enthusiasm and efforts were all in vain. However, Edwin was finally able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. According to a report on nuevaya.com, Edwin Burgos got his soccer shoes signed by the man himself! Interestingly, Lionel Messi not just signed little Edwin’s shoes. He gave the boy another surprise. Messi sent the boy greetings via a video. “A big hug Edwin,” said Messi in the video.

Edwin Burgos’ craving to get Messi’s signature does not come as a surprise. For, an ex-Inter Miami player had once approached Messi with the same wish as the effervescent six-year-old Edwin.

When Messi signed an autograph for a former Miami player

Now, Lionel Messi is an Inter-Miami player. But Messi and the MLS side go some time back. In 2022, the Hardrock Stadium in Miami hosted an Argentina-Honduras pre-World Cup warm-up match. Then, Leo Messi and his national team practiced at Inter Miami’s training ground. After the matchup against Honduras, Messi returned to Inter Miami’s facility to meet with their players.

Messi crossed paths with fellow Argentine player and Miami goalkeeper Francisco Ranieri. Then, the goalkeeper wanted Messi to sign an autograph on his arm. Messi obliged. Ranieri did not waste time. He rushed to a tattoo studio to get the soccer legend’s signature tattooed! A professional player or aspiring soccer player like six-year-old Edwin, the respect and admiration towards Messi remains the same. In the coming days, as Messi is set to render his heroics, America will indeed have more such ‘fanboy’ stories to tell about the Argentine.
